Plasma Cell Disorders and Histiocytosis Flashcards
1
Q
Multiple Myeloma:
A
- Malignant proliferation of plasma cells in bone marrow
- Symptoms depend on what the plasma cells are producing
2
Q
Multiple Myeloma plasma cell production products:
A
- Osteoclast activating factor
- Immunoglobulin
- Overproduction of Ig Light chains
3
Q
Multiple Myeloma osteoclast activating factor:
A
- Activate osteoclasts
- Punch out bone lesion in skull and vertebrae
- Fractures
- Bone pain
- Hypercalcemia
4
Q
Multiple Myeloma immunoglobulin production:
A
- Elevated serum protein
- M-spike in SPEP
- Monoclonal IgG or IgA (increase infections)
- Rouleaux formation
5
Q
Multiple Myeloma overproduction of Ig Light chain:
A
- Free light chain deposit in tissue forming Amyloids
- Free light chain in urine-> Bence-Jones proteins
- Free light chain deposit in kidney tubules-> Renal failure/Myeloma Kidney
6
Q
Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS):
A
- Increased serum protein with M-Spike on SPEP
- NO other MM clinical findings
- May turn to Myeloma
7
Q
Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia:
A
- B cell lymphoma with monoclonal IgM production
- Generalized LAD
- Increased serum protein with M-Spike that is IgM cause
- No bone lesions
- Visual and neurological defects due to increased blood viscosity
