Plants And Their Environment Flashcards
Global warming, human effects, natural effects, photosynthesis
Effect of calcium deficiency?
Tissues become soft and plant will wilt
Effect of magnesium deficiency?
Essential for chlorophyll molecule. Can’t photosynthesis, won’t grow
Effect of iron deficiency?
Leaves become bleached leading to deficiency in chlorophyll and reduced photosynthesis
Effect of potassium deficiency?
Potassium is essential for flowers and fruit. Leaves lose colour at tips and may curl and crinkle
Effect of nitrate deficiency?
Plants will become short and spindle and leads to deficiency in chlorophyll. The may wilt and die.
Effect of phosphate deficiency?
Plants grow slowly leading to dwarfed and stunted plants
Effect of sulfate deficiency?
Veins in leaves become reddish leading to deficiency chlorophyll. Leave may also become twisted and brittle
What’s a meristem?
A meristem is the part of the plant that controls growth, if destroyed plants will struggle to grow/can’t grow
How does trampling affect plant growth?
Leads to the meristem being destroy so plant can’t grow
How does pollution affect plant growth?
Acid rain causes the soil to become acidic
Killing or inhibiting plant growth
How do chemicals affect plant growth?
Pesticides can inhibit the growth of certain plants and increase the growth of others
How does overharvesting affect plant growth?
It depletes nutrients from the soil
How does habitat destruction affect plant growth?
Deforestation or clearing of land for agricultural or cattle grazing kills plants
How does introduction of foreign species affect plant growth?
New plant species affect growth of native plant species as they fight for resources
What do plants need to grow?
Light Water Nutrients (ions) Carbon dioxide Space Suitable temperature
