Plants and Fungi Unit Test Flashcards
What are the types of fungi
yeasts molds and mushrooms
What are the key characteristics of fungi
they grow in one place ( like a plant)
their cells are eukaryotic
their cell walls are made of chitin
they are multicellular ( except yeast)
they are heterotrophic (absorb food)
reproduce with spores( except yeast
What are the importances of fungi
they are earths decomposers chemicals made by fungi have been copied by humans for use as medicines ( antibiotics) Food source ( cheese and bread) Some cause diseases ( ringworm and athletes foot)
What is the structure of mold
they have thread like bodies called hyphae
What is the structure of a mushroom
mycelium is the threads of hyphae intertwined in the soil the mycelium sends up a fruiting body also known as a mushroom
in order explain the life cycle of a mushroom
Mushroom( fruiting body)
Hypha ( grows from spore)
Mycelium ( in the soil)
Young mushroom
What are the plant charateristics
they are multicellular
cells are surronded by a wall
they produce food using photosynthasis
why do mosses stay small
because they have no vascular tissue
How do ferns reproduce
they still require water for their sperm to swim to the egg
they dont have flowers or seeds but they have spores
Seed producing plants……………….
they do not require water for reproduction
pollen is the male sex cell
egg is the female sex cell
pollination is whan the pollon reaches the egg
How does the seed form
the seed forms from the fertalized egg after pollonation
so cute haha
yay
what does the seed consist of
a seed consists of a seed coat, young plant and stored food
What are gymnosperms
mostly conifers such as ceders, pines and firs
they have needle like or scale leaves
do not have flowers
have cones that protect the seeds
what are angiosperms
they are a flowering plant
the fruit develops to protects the seed
