Plants Flashcards
Leaf
Photosynthesis, transportation, gas conversion and store food e.g lettuce
Transportation
Cools the plant when water vapour passes through it and the stoma which is the pours of the plant
Photosynthesis
Make food for the plant
Gas exchange
Allows the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen
Leaf stores food
E.g lettuce and cabbage
Stem
Allows the transport of water and food. Also they store food é.g a potato and also exchange gas
Fruit
Protects seeds provides food for seeds
Bud
Allows for new leaves and flowers to grow
Roots
Anchor and support takes in food and store food é.g carrots
Water
Is absorbed through the roots and travel to the leaves and the tips of the plant through the xylem
Xylem
Water and dissolved solids e.g minerals
Phloem
Food for the leaves around the plant
Photosynthesis
Is the process where green plants make food using light energy
Chlorophyll
Is the green chemical needed for photosynthesis, it is found in the chloroplasts of the plant cells
Carbon dioxide
Enters the stomata (holes on the underside of the leaf)
How are leaves designed for photosynthesis
Leaves are flat and thin so sunlight can get through them also leaves have tiny holes called stomata the allow oxygen out and carbon dioxide in.
What do leaves need to photosynthesise
- carbon dioxide
- water
- chlorophyll
- sunlight
What do plants do with the glucose when they make it
They use it for growing and repairing. If they don’t use it they store it as starch
