Plants Flashcards
Name and discuss the plant systems.
- Root systems: up takes water
- Xylem vessels: transports water and nutrients upward through the shoot system, producing a flower
- Phloem vessels: transports sugars (food)
What is the receptacle?
an enlarged area at the apex of a stem that bears the organs of a flower or the florets of a flower head.
What is the peduncle?
the stalk bearing a flower or fruit, or the main stalk of an inflorescence.
What is the sepal?

What is the filament?
the slender part of a stamen that supports the anther.
What is the anther?
The part of a stamen that contains the pollen
What is the pistil?
the female organs of a flower, comprising the stigma, style, and ovary.
What is the stigma?
The sticky part of a flower that receives pollen during pollination.
What is the style?
An elongated part of a carpel, or group of fused carpels, between the ovary and the stigma.
What is the ovary?
