Plants Flashcards
What is photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is how plants produce some of the nutrients they need to survive.
What is the equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water → oxygen + glucose
How do plants store their energy
They store/keep it chemically in their tissues
Why can eating plants help animals
They take the chemical energy and use it to store and use it to live
Why is it be initial for both plants and animals
Because both the waste products is the food/air the need
What would happen without photosynthesis on earth
There would be no life
Why is there a waxy cuticle on leaves
Prevents water from escaping upper leaf surface
What is the stomata
They are open pores which allow gas exchange
What adaption does a leaf have
Stomata, waxy cuticle, The spongy mesophyll, The palisade layer
Why do stomatas close
So when the water is low they can make sure little is lost
What is the spongy mesophyll
Is a layer of cells, with air gaps to allow gasses to diffuse eg. Just like a sponge
What is the palisade layer
Of tightly packed cells filled with chloroplast
