a degenerative > inflammatory condition of the plantar fascia, leading to medial heel pain
risk factors for plantar fasciopathy
- ages 40-60
- both M and F
- runners
- increased standing time
- high BMI
- occupation requiring prolonged standing
diagnostic criteria of plantarfasciopathy
- pain with 1st step in the morning
- positive windlass mechanism
- plantar fascia thickness
- medial heel pain (medial tubercle of calcaneus)
- abnormal foot posture-6 (FPI-6) score
- limitedactive and passive talocrural joint DF ROM
what is the grade level for stretching with plantar fasciopathy
grade A
what is the grade level for heavy load strength training
Grade B
recommendations for plantar fasciopathy
- strength training high-load (85% 1RM)
ankle inversion, eversion, PF, DF
important for foot stability - plantar fascia stretching in combo with gastroc/soleus stretching
important for pain management
how would you help manage pain early on
- night splits (strausberg sock)
- night time/morning stretches
more stretching reps less stretching time
