Plant Processes Flashcards
What is photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process in which plants make their own food in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll
What is Respiration
Respiration is the process by which sugar is oxidised or broken down, releasing energy for growth and development.
What is Transpiration
Transpiration is the process by which plants lose water in the form of water vapour through the stomata on their leaves and green stems
Absorption
The uptake of water by the plant. It’s a process in which plants transport water from the soil to the root xylem via root hairs.
Translocation
Translocation is the process by which water, mineral ions and food substances are transported in specialised tissues within the plant.
Phototropism
Phototropism is a growth movement made by a plant in response to the direction of a light stimulus.
Photoperiodism
Photoperiodism refers to the influence of day length( duration of light) on the production of flowers.
