Support: Big roots that look like they arise from the base of the tree trunk. They hold the tree upright and aid in the extensive distribution of the shallow roots.
Buttress roots
Support: An adventitious root that arises from the stem and provides additional support for the plant.
Prop/stilt roots
Support: A root that grows from and supports the stem above the ground in plants such as mangroves.
Brace roots
Support: They grow from the plant stem or leaf tissues. Aerial roots that cling to some kind of support
Clinging roots
Storage stem: a horizontal stem that grows near the surface of the soil.
Rhizome
Storage stem: swollen underground stems that store carbohydrates.
Tubers
Storage stem: Cluster of fleshy leaves attached to the short, thick stem with basal roots.
Bulbs
Storage stem: swollen base of stem covered in papery leaves
Corm
Asexual reproduction stem: a slender prostrate branch w/ long/short internodes, creeping on the ground and rooting at the nodes.
Runner
Asexual reproduction stem: an aerial horizontal stem w/ long internodes; often forms buds that develop into separate plants.
Stolon
Asexual reproduction stem: originates in the axil of a leaf as a short, thickened horizontal branch.
Offset
Asexual reproduction stem: stem arising from root tissue, often from cut woody plant.
