Plant Nutrition & Transport Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is photosynthesis and it’s equation?
Process by which plants make glucose using light, water, and CO₂.
6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂
What are the limiting factors of photosynthesis?
Light intensity, CO₂ concentration, and temperature.
What are the roles of nitrates, magnesium, and potassium in plant growth?
Nitrates: Make amino acids and proteins.
Magnesium: Make chlorophyll.
Potassium: Help enzymes in photosynthesis and respiration.
What are xylem and phloem and their functions?
Xylem: Transports water and minerals from roots to leaves.
Phloem: Transports sugars from leaves to the rest of the plant.
What is transpiration?
Loss of water vapor from stomata in leaves.
What factors affect the rate of transpiration?
Light intensity, temperature, humidity, and wind.
How do guard cells control the opening and closing of stomata?
Turgid guard cells open stomata; flaccid guard cells close them.
