Q

name 4 adaptions that Palisade cells/layer to help them photosynthesise:

A
  1. Tightly packed to ensure as much sunlight as possible.
  2. Close to the top of leaf to ensure as much sunlight.
  3. Elongated palisade cells can absorb the sunlight.
  4. Palisades cells have many chloroplasts tightly packed in their cytoplasm.

Q

What does the thin leaves do in plants?

A

They are thin as there is a short distance for carbon dioxide to diffuse into leaf cells.

Q

What does the waxy cuticle do?

A

Covers the leaves and is like waterproof layer and helps the plant to retain water and stop it from dying.

Q

What does the palisade mesophyll layer do?

A

One of the cells in the upper part of the leaf that contain the most chloroplasts and carry out most of the photosynthesis.

Q

what does the spongy mesophyll layer do?

A

The layer of cells in the lower part of the leaf where there are many air spaces, so increasingly the internal surface area to volume ratio. So they capture the light and makes food. The air spaces between them allow easy gas exchange.

Q

What does xylem and phloem vessels do?

A
  • Xylem transport water and solutes from the roots of the leaves.
  • Phloem transport food from the leaves to the rest of the plant.

Q

What does the stomata do?

A

Tiny holes in the surface area of a leaf (mostly the lower epidermis) which allow gases to diffuse in and put.
