Q

What is chlorophyll?

A

Chloroplasts contain the green chemical called chlorophyll . Chlorophyll absorbs the energy from sunlight that allows carbon dioxide and water to react .

TRANSPORTS WATER INTO THE LEAF

17
Q

PHLOEM

A

TRANSPORTS SUCROSE AND AMINO ACIDS AROUND THE PLANT

18
Q

What adaptions do leaves have for photosynthesis?

A

-Leaves are thin so gases can reach cells easily.
-Leaves are wide and flat to create a large surface area and to absorb as much light as possible
-Leaves contain lots of chloroplasts which contain the green pigment chlorophyll
-Leaves have lots of veins to carry water to the cells and carry glucose away .
-Leaves have holes, called stomata, on their underside through which gases move in and out.

19
Q

Why is the distribution of stomata between the upper and lower epidermis is uneven?

A

The lower epidermis (the underside of the leaf) has morebecause it is more often in the shade and so it is cooler, which means evaporation won’t take place as much.
