Plant Growth Flashcards
1
Q
What is the name of the auxin involved in plant growth?
A
Indoleactic acid (IAA)
2
Q
Effect of IAA on plant shoots
A
Increased length/ elongation in presence of IAA
3
Q
Effect of IAA on plant roots ?
A
Plant roots are inhibited/ stop growing in presence of IAA
4
Q
Phototropism effect on plant growth
A
1- Produces IAA in tip and travels evenly downwards
2- light causes IAA to diffuse to shaded side
3- IAA causes elongation so shaded side grows faster causing it to bend
4- growth towards light
5
Q
Gravitropism effect on IAA and growth
A
1- IAA diffuses in response to gravity to bottom root/ underside
2- IAA inhibits/ stops cell growth so top of root grows faster bending down
