How can plant diseases be detected? (7 examples)
Stunted growth, spots or discoloration, decay, growths, malformed stems and the presence of pests
What leads to stunted growth in plants?
A lack of nitrate ions
What causes a lack of chlorophyll in plants?
A lack of magnesium ions
What are some physical plant defence responses? (3 examples)
Cellulose cell walls, tough waxy cuticle, layers of dead cells (bark)
What are some chemical plant defence responses? (2 examples)
Antibacterial chemicals, poisons
What are some mechanical adaptions?
Thorns and hairs, leaves which droop or curl, mimicry
