Cell structure Flashcards
What do eukaryotic cells have?
A nucleus
What is an example of an eukaryotic cell?
Animal and plant cells
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Controls the movement of substances in and out of a cell
What does the cytoplasm do?
A jelly like substance where reactions take place inside a cell
What does respiration release?
Energy
Where does respiration take place?
In mitochondria inside cells
Where are proteins made?
Inside ribosomes in cells
What are cell walls made of and what do they do?
Made of cellulose and give a cell structure
What do chloroplasts contain?
Chlorophyll
What is chlorophyll used for?
Photosynthesis
What does chlorophyll absorb?
Light for photosynthesis
What is genetic material stored on?
Stored on chromosomes held in the nucleus of a cell
What do prokaryotic cells (bacterial cells) have and don’t have?
Have a cell membrane and cytoplasm but no nucleus
