Q

How does the cuticle act as a physical barrier?

A

The waxy cuticle is on top of the epidermis cells, preventing pathogens from directly contacting the epidermal cells

Hydrophobic nature of cuticle prevents water from accumulating. This prevents fungal pathogens from growing as they require standing water for spore germination
