Plant cells Flashcards
What cells are plants made of?
- Plants are made of cells.
→ These cells are eukaryotic.
What subcellular structures of a plant cell can be seen under a light microscope when observing a plant cell?
- Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Cell wall, Chloroplast, Cell membrane, Vacuole.
- Mitochondria are also visible with a light microscope but can’t be seen in detail.
What subcellular structures of a plant cell can be seen under an electron microscope when observing a plant cell?
Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Ribosome, Mitochondrion, Cell wall, Chloroplast, Cell membrane.
What subcellular structures do animal + plant cells both have?
Animal + plant cells have certain structures in common: the nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria and ribosomes.
What feature do all plant cells also have + how is it related to it’s function?(What is it’s function?)
Cell wall - Plant + bacterial cell walls provide structure + function. Only plant cell walls are made from cellulose.
What are some additional features that some plant cells may have?
- Chloroplast
- Permanent Vacuole
How is a chloroplast related to its function + what is it’s function?
Organelle that contains the green pigment, Chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy needed for photosynthesis. Contains the enzymes needed for photosynthesis.
How does a permanent vacuole relate to it’s cells function?
Filled with cell sap to help keep the cell swollen.
What do animal cells might have?
Animal cells may also have vacuoles, but these are small + temporary.
What are vacuoles?
A space within the cytoplasm of plant cells that contains cell sap.
