What are forages, give examples

A

Crops grown for livestock feed. Two types:

  • Sillage: fermented high moisture fodder. Crops used for this are grasses, clover, alfalfa, oats, rye, maize
  • Hay: Dried plants that are cut, dried and stored. Crops used are grass, legumes.

A

Used for their fibre, to make clothing, tope, paper. Examples are hemp, cotton, flax
