Planning Requirements Flashcards
Is Holding required when Thunderstorms are forecast but weather is better than prescribed minima?
Yes. we should carry TEMPO fuel any time there is TS forecast.
eg. Prob30 -TSRA
Minimum Rwy width ? Aerodrome reference code
30m
3C
Can we operate on gravel runways?
wet runway testing?
yes if fitted with gravel kits
With wet runways a Clegg hammer test must be conducted.
Test must result in 18CIV (Clegg Impact Value) or higher. (wait for runway to dry if not)
Pavement concessions:
PCN
ACN
Pavement classification number
Aircraft classification number
Are designed to indicate the strength of the runway, Taxiway or apron.
PCN values are published in the AIPs part Aerodromes.
Take-off alternate
When the departure aerodrome is not suitable for return in the event of emergency then sufficient fuel must be carried to an adequate or suitable alternate.
Must be within 60min at single engine cruise speed.
206kts S/E = 206nm
60min single engine cruise speed?
OEI 206 kts TAS
Fuel used During taxi (start to take-off)
for planning purposes
176lb or 80kg with APU on
110lb or 50kg APU off
Final reserve fuel
30min at holding speed at 1500ft in ISA conditions.
emb120: as per the operational flight plan or 500lbs
Holding fuel
Tempo not more than 60min holding fuel
INTER not more than 40min holding fuel
EMB120: 900lbs/hr
Approach Fuel
Fuel to be carried if an instrument approach is anticipated that is not along the flight log path.
EMB120: 70bls (14.1lbs/min and 5min)
Arrival allowance may need to be added for lengthy arrival procedures.
Additional approach allowance
Where conditions at the destination are forecast to be below minima.
increase the company requirement for approach fuel allowance to account for up to 2 additional attempts at an approach:
EMB120: 240lbs
Wet season fuel
90min fuel remaining at completion of landing roll:
a.45min holding fuel and
b. final reserve fuel 30min and
c. additional fuel 15min
= EMB120: 1400 lbs
Passenger Oxygen mask availability requirements?
Above 25,000ft you can only take 29pax as the front seat needs to be available for the Cabin crew.
Each passenger needs a mask.
Between 14,000ft-25,000ft only need to carry oxygen masks for 10% of the passengers.
at 21°C dispatch is usually 1300 psi (30 Passengers+ CA, LSP and RSP)
or 1470 psi (30 Passengers + CA, Pilot and Co-pilot and observer) at 21°C.
What should the crew say after putting on the oxygen mask?
“Breathing Normally”
Stable approach criteria
The airplane should be stabilised at 1000 ft HAA if in IMC and non-normal
conditions, and no lower than 500 ft HAA if in VMC conditions. A approach on
the EMB120 is considered stabilised when all of the following criteria are met:
– The airplane is on the correct flight path,
– Only small changes in heading and pitch are required to maintain the
correct flight path,
– Fly ILS approaches within one dot of the glideslope and localizer,
– The airplane approach speed is VREF + Wind Correction, not exceeding
VREF +20 kt and not less than VREF,
– The airplane is in the correct landing configuration,
– Sink rate is no greater than 1000 ft/min; if an approach requires a sink
rate greater than 1000 ft/min, conduct a special briefing,
– Power setting is appropriated for the airplane configuration,
– All briefings and checklists have been conducted.
