Fuel Flashcards
How many fuel tanks?
How many compartments?
2 tanks (1 per side) each tank is split into 2 sections in/outboard
How many fuel pumps and what is there purpose?
Each side has:
2 electric fuel pumps for engine start and crossfeed
1 main jet pump
2 scavenger pumps
Electric pumps are not enough to run an engine alone. Engine driven pump is required for operation. (provides higher pressure)
Electric pumps provide positive pressure to prevent cavitation.
Boost pump in AUTO will go on when fuel press is below 9PSI and off at 12psi
How can you cut off fuel at the fire wall?
Pull fire handle
Fuel oil Heat exchanger purpose?
Keeps fuel at around 20C
When does “Low fuel press” show
Below 9psi
Engine driven fuel pump in powered by?
NH spool (compressor)
Fuel gauage values are shown in ?
Pounds (lbs)
How will the fuel gauge look during loss of power
Fuel will indicate 0 and digital will go blank
Other instruments read bellow 0
There is no low fuel warning system
How much fuel does the APU burn
About 130lbs / hr
Fuel totalizer will estimate APU burn on pre-set values
Engine fuel burn is known from actual fuel flow.
Fuelling and defueling
Aircraft should be powered during fuelling.
Pressure driven gauges during fuelling ops
Defueling is electric.
If not powered or Vent valve not working then the over wing fuel caps must be open.
Max fuel inbalance
600lbs (aerodynamic limit)
How does Fuel cross feed work?
Right electric pump on and crossfeed open will allow the left engine to use fuel from the right tank.
Cross feed does NOT allow fuel to transfer from one tank to another. Fuel can only be burned by the opposite side engine to correct for fuel imbalance.
