Planning for Achievement Flashcards
Describe the “Begin with the End” technique.
It concentrates on the outcome in the hearts of the students. What will they know at the end of today’s class?
What question embodies the “Begin with the End” technique?
“What will my students understand today?”
What are the three steps in the planning process?
- Refine and perfect the objective based on previous progress.
- Plan a short assessment that will determine whether the objective was mastered.
- Plan an activity or sequence of activities that lead to mastery of the objective.
What are the four Ms as they relate to objectives?
Manageable - teachable in a single lesson.
Measurable - success in teaching can be measured.
Made first - begin with the end.
Most Important - prioritize the path to your ultimate objective.
What is the “Post It” technique?
The objective must be posted in a visible location in the room.
Describe the “Shortest Path” technique.
The most direct path to the objective is most often the best path. It is the Occam’s Razor of teaching.
What is the “Double Plan” technique?
Plan both what you the teacher will be doing and also what the students will be doing.
What is the “Draw the Map” technique?
The layout of the classroom should support the goal of the day’s lesson.
What are five great questions to ask that are related to the “Draw the Map” technique?
- When should students interact in school?
- How should students interact in school?
- What should the way students sit signal and incentivize about the various kinds of interactions?
- Which kinds of interactions support which kinds of lessons objectives?
- What other ways can students be socializes to interact appropriately without changing the classroom every day.
