Dictionary Definition:
The cognitive process of thinking about what
you will do in the event of something
happening
A series of steps to be carried out or goals to
be accomplished

Predicting the future
Executing the project without committing resources
Failure on paper
Communications
Figuring out what to do
Requirement if project control is desired
Excuses Not To Plan
I don’t have time
I already know what to do
We don’t have enough information
Cost too much
Nobody will come to a planning meeting
I have been successful in the past without planning

Common Mistakes In Planning
- Not involving the people who are going to be
- Not getting commitments from those people who are
- going to implement the plan
- Ignoring the resource allocations
- Not providing the time to develop a plan
- Managers planning other people’s work without the knowledge of what needs to be done
- Not developing a written plan
