1
Q

evidence for internal structure : L waves

A

travel along the surface form above the quake or epicentre larger and more destructive horizontally back and forth, seismic waves form earthquakes energy pulses

Q

primary waves

A

parallel to movement can move through liquid but are slower, p waves move faster through solids than liquids thus changing the direction of travel sometimes thus wavy not straight lines

Q

tectonic plate

A

Subducting plate : one gets pushed underneath and the other over, convergent plate most often under water

divergent - pushed away form each other

transform - they move in opposite directions parallel to each other rather than sporting or running into each other, highly susceptible to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions

Q

convection

A

very hot rocks pushed up to the surface, cooler rocks get pushed down beneath layers this contributes to landform formation as ridges and tenches

Q

impact cratering

A

asteroids - not observed to have characteristics of an active comet such as a tail , made of metals and rocks
comets - dust ice and rock

Q

crater structure

A

excavation zone - concave area carved out by impact

deposition zone - convex area surrounding crater walls increase in elevation
