THE CORONAL PLANE
A vertical plane running from front to back dividing the body into right and left sides
THE SAGITTAL PLANE
A vertical plane running from side to side dividing the body into anterior and posterior portions
THE TRANSVERSE (AXIAL) PLANE
A horizontal plane that is parallel to the ground dividing the body into superior and inferior portions

L1 – 9th costal cartilage, splenic vein transverses behind pancreas, neck of pancreas
L2 – renal veins,
L3 – umbilicus
L4 – iliac crest, bifurcation of abdominal aorta into left and right common iliac veins
