Placebo and Double-Placebo effect Flashcards
1
Q
What is the placebo effect?
A
The placebo effect is during clinical trials, patients are randomly put into 2 groups. One group is given the real drug, and the other a placebo (fake drug and has no effect)
2
Q
Why is giving a placebo (fake drug) good?
A
It prevents the placebo effect from happening and altering the results (this is when the patient expects the drug to work, so they feel better despite the treatment having no effect)
3
Q
Clinical trials are blind, what does this mean?
A
It means the patient does not know if they are getting the drug or placebo
4
Q
What is a double-blind clinical trial?
A
This is when the scientists/doctor AND patient do not know what they’re getting or who got what
