Monotherapy or adjunct for partial seizures; potential 1st line for primary generalized convulsive seizures
Phenobarbital
Refractory seizures & neonatal.
Phenytoin
First line for primary generalized convulsive and partial seizures
Pregabalin
Second line for partial seizures
Primidone
grandmal, psychomotor and focal seizures
Rufinamide
adjunct in Lennox-Gastaut (mixed) if VPA, TOP and Lamotrigine are all failed.
Tiagabine
Second line for partial seizures.
Topiramite
First line for partial seizures as adjunct or primary, approved for tonic-clonic in primary generalized epilepsy
Valproic Acid
First line for primary generalized seizures (myoclonic, atonic, absence), can be used for partial, useful for mixed.
Vigabatrin
First line for infantile spasms, 3rd for refractory partial epilepsy.
Zonisamide
Adjunct for partial seizures
These drugs are first line/ monotherapy for partial seizures
Carbamazepine, lamotrigine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin topiramate, valproic acid
These drugs are second line/ adjunct for partial seizures
Ezogabine, gabapentin, lacosamide, lamotrigine, oxcarbazepine, pregablin, tiagabine, topirimate, valproic acid, vigabatrin, zonisamide
These drugs can be used for absence seizures
