Q

PD Aspects

A
  • Concentration versus time in tissues and other body fluids ==> Pharmacologic or toxicologic effect
  • Concentration versus time at site of infection ==> antimicrobial effect versus time

Q

PK/PD Parameters

A

Combine information on what the body does to the drug as well as what the drug does to the body/bacteria

Q

3 Antibiotic Groups

A
  1. Time > MIC: B-lactams, Linezolid
  2. AUC/MIC: Macrolides, tetracyclines
  3. Peak: MIC: Fluoroquinolones, aminoglycosides, metronidazole, daptomycin

Q

Aminoglycosides + PK/PD

A
  • Allows to select dosing regimen that minimizes toxicity from aminoglycoside therapy
  • Single daily dose is preferred (some exceptions like pregnant women and impaired renal fxn)
  • Toxicity is both time and concentration dependent
  • Aminoglycosides shown to have PAE
  • Used for Gram “-“ infections
