What hormones are released from the anterior pituitary?
ACTH - adenocorticotrophic hormone TSH - thyroid stimulating hormone LH and FSH PRL GH MSH
What are the hormones released from the posterior pituitary?
ADH
Oxytocin
What does ACTH do?
Targets - adrenals
Stimulates adrenal gland to produce cortisol
What does TSH do?
Stimulates thyroid to secrete thyrotoxine
What does LH and FSH do?
Stimulates ovaries to produce oestrogen and progesterone and testes to produce testosterone
What does prolactin do?
Stimulates breasts to produce milk
What does GH do?
Stimulates growth and repair
What does ADH do?
Affects water retention in the kidneys
What does oxytocin do?
Affects uterine contractions and release of breast milk
Where is TRH (thyroid releasing hormone) released from?
The paraventricular nuclei in the hypothyalamus
