the indent in of clef is the line of middle C
why do composers use alto clef?
it allows composers to write music in staff instead of using ledger lines

what is the difference between notes originally in alto clef and transposed to treble clef?
a piece written in alto clef would be seen to have notes much lower and with ledger lines if it was transposed to treble clef
which instruments use tenor clef? What do these instruments also have?
used by instruments like the cellos, trombone and bassoon which all have upper range seeming far beyond base clef
what is the arrangement of flat key signature in all clefs?
all clefs have the same arrangement of flats: a row of three notes going down one each time, and a row of four notes going down one each time 4 notes away from the first row
what is the arrangement of the sharp key signature in all clefs?
all clefs have the same arrangement of sharps except for the tenor clef: a row of two notes going up one each time, a row of three notes going up each times four notes away from first row, a row of two notes 3 notes away from second row

what is a vocal score?
a condensed form of soprano, alto, tenor and base pitch
what does vocal score look like (notes and stems)?
soprano and alto pitches are places in the treble clef with the higher pitch seeming up and the lower pitch stemming down. Base and tenor pitches are placed in the base clef in the same manner
what does it mean if there is a little 8 under the clef?
this means the notes are sung or played now octave lower than written

open score format

when each voice or instrument is given its own staff

instruments notated in keys other then the sound actually produced in orchestral music
