Piston Engines- Principle Of Operations Flashcards
Difference between petrol and diesel combustion?
Petrol ignited via spark plug, diesel initiates combustion from the heat of compression
4 stroke cylinder cycle?
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow/push. (Induction, compression, power, exhaust)
How is valve timing achieved/controlled?
Camshaft operating on the rockers via push rods
The purpose of valve timing is to achieve maximum what entering the cylinder and m maximum what exiting the cylinder?
Maximum charge into the cylinder and maximum waste gas leaving the cylinder
What is the ineffective crank angle?
Happens at TDC and BDC of piston movement as there is the least vertical movement of the cylinder
What controls ignition timing (piston engines)
Magnetos
