What are Buccaneers?

A

The word buccaneer is an Anglicized derivative of the French word
boucanier, they taught French hunters to smoke meat
on a wooden grate called a buccan. The Arawak word became boucan
in French hence the name boucanier (one who uses a boucan)

What is the difference between Buccaneers, Privateers, and the Pirates?

A

Buccaneers attacked Spanish shipping and sometimes had letters of marque. Where as Privateers were commissioned by a monarch or an authorized representative thereof to attack enemy ships , and Lastly they pirates
attacked any ship they thought was worth the effort regardless of national origin.
