Carburetor
Is the engine turbo-charged or normally aspirated?
Normally aspirated
How are the cylinders arranged?
Horizontally opposed
How is ignition provided?
Magnetos independent of the engine
What are the minimum and maximum oil capacities?
6-8 quarts (if a full quart can be added, ATP requires it)
Who makes the propeller?
Sensenich (76in. diameter)
How is propeller RPM adjusted?
Prop RPM adjusted by throttle because it is direct drive
Define fixed-pitch
Fixed pitch propellers cannot be adjusted
Describe the electrical system
28v DC system
24v lead-acid battery
70 amp alternator
Voltage regulator maintaining 28v output
What are the indications of failed alternator?
“ALTERNATOR INOP” annunciator
0 reading on ammeter
Eventual loss of power after battery
Will the engine continue to run with alternator and battery switches off?
Yes
Describe stall warning system
Electronic stall warning system on left wing; activated 5-10 knots above stall speed
Describe the fuel system
2-tank @25 gallons each
(one gallon in each tank unusable)
100LL avgas
Engine driven and electric fuel pumps
Electric pump used for all takeoffs, landings, and switching tanks (ATP uses for in-flight maneuvers except steep turns)
Explain how to change fuel tanks in flight.
- Turn electric pump on
- Switch fuel tanks
- Check fuel pressure
- Turn electric pump off
- Check fuel pressure
How is steering accomplished on the ground?
Rudder pedals
What is the range of travel of the nose wheel?
20 degrees each direction
Shimmy dampener dampens nose wheel vibrations and steadies during flight
What is the landing gear type?
Tricycle
What type of brake system is used?
Hydraulic disc brakes
Where is the brake fluid reservoir?
Top left of firewall
What type of flaps and what are the settings?
Manual flaps
0, 10, 25, and 40 degrees
What are the maximum taxi, takeoff, and landing weights?
Taxi: 2558
Takeoff: 2550
Landing: 2550
What is the maximum baggage capacity?
200 pounds
Define Vx and Vy
Vx: best angle of climb
Vy: best rate of climb
What aircraft equipment checks are required under FAR part 91
- VOR equipment: every 30 days
- Transponders: every 24 calendar months
- Pitot static systems: every 24 calendar months
- ELT equipment: every 12 months, after half battery, or 1 hour cumulative use
- Aircraft used for hire: 100 hour and annual inspection
- Altimeter: every 24 months
What documents are required to be on the aircraft?
Airworthiness certificate Registration Radio station license Operators handbook (POH) Weight and balance External data plate Compass deviation card
Explain lost communication procedures.
VFR: squawk 7600 and land as soon as practicable
IFR:
Route (first that applies)-assigned, vectored, expected, filed
Altitude: (highest until descent)-minimum IFR altitude, expected, assigned
Does the PA-28 have an alternate static source?
Yes; window and cabin vents closed, heater and defroster on
What instruments are pitot-static?
Airspeed indicator
Altimeter
Vertical speed indicator
Where is the pitot-static port?
Under left wing
In the event of an electrical failure, what pilot actions are necessary to ensure continued operation of the standby attitude indicator?
Press the “STBY PWR” button. To keep gyro accurate, press within 60 seconds
If the standby power button on the attitude indicator is not pressed within one minute of electrical failure, what will happen?
The gyro will no longer be calibrated to the airplane when power is restored
How do you determine a standard rate turn on an aircraft with a G500 system?
Use the reference lines and the magenta line that appears above the heading indicator to identify a standard rate or half-standard rate turn
PFD
Primary Flight Display
MFD
Multi-Function Display
In the event of an AHRS failure, which indications will no longer be displayed on the PFD? Which indications will still be visible on the PFD?
Airspeed Altitude Vertical Speed Compass Rose (supplemented by gps) Ground Track (supplemented by gps)
Which approaches can be accomplished with an AHRS failure?
Any precision or non-precision approach using the HSI (horizontal situation indicator) on the PFD
