Takeoff

A
  • Maintain centerline
  • Right rudder to adjust for torque and p-factor
  • FULL THROTTLE
  • Begin rotation at 60 knots
  • Keep on right rudder
  • Trim
  • Level off beginning 10% of vertical speed early (e.g. 500ft per minute = 50 feet early)
  • Allow airspeed to increase
  • Throttle down to cruise
  • Trim

Climb

A
  • Pitch up until climb speed is reached
  • Throttle up to maintain
  • Right rudder to counter p-factor
  • Trim if needed (long climb)
  • Level off beginning 10% of vertical speed early (e.g. 500ft per minute = 50 feet early)
  • Allow airspeed to increase
  • Throttle down to cruise
  • Trim

  • Throttle down
  • Allow nose to dip (follow lead of throttle to avoid stall)
  • May need left rudder
  • Trim if needed

Normal Turns

A
  • Clear for turn
  • Bank
  • Rudder to remain coordinated
  • Roll out beginning 1/2 of bank angle early
    (e. g. 30 degree bank = 15 degrees early)
  • Use throttle and elevator as needed to maintain elevation (or increase/decrease bank angle)

Climbing turns

A

Same as normal turns except:
-Adjust power and elevator/trim to maintain attitude and speed (don’t stall!)
-Less rudder needed on left climbs due to p-factor
(Possibly also for descending right turns)
