pintar intro to cell 2 Flashcards
a mutation in spectrin causes what disease?
hereditary spherocytosis. a disorder in which RBCs are spherical due to a mutation in the spectrin protein that holes the cytoskeleltal components on the membrane tigether
what are the one letter names for the outer and inner surface of the freeze fractured membrane and which side has the proteins?
the outer surface is the E (external surface) and the inner surface is the P (protoplasmic phase) the P phase has all the proteins. the proteins are stabilized by spectrin
the glycocalyx consists of____ and are found on_____
glycocalyx consists of many types of glycosylated proteins and are found on microvilli or brush boarders
what is a terminal bar and where is it found?
terminal bars are what you call junctional complexes stained under H&E and visualized under LM
what does each of the junctional complexes look like under EM?
look in order
tight
belt des
spot des
what is the terminal web and what ,akes up the terminal web
terminal web is where the actin scafold of the microvilli meet the cell itself. it is made of spectrin and intermediate filaments
how do you tell the diffirence between mcrotubules/cilia and centrioles?
in their structure. Microtubules and cilia have 9 doublets + 1 doublet in the middle and centriols have 9 triplets.
granular vs. agranular reticulum
granular- secretory proteins
agranular- lipids
compare RER to Golgi
RER looks more ganulated the lumen is wider. Golgi is more closer together and not as close to the nucelus and with smaller lumen
what is charateristic of lysosomes under EM?
they look like fooballs. Only lysosomes of eosinophils have this.
