genetics of common disorders/ personalized medicine Flashcards
how do you calculate relative risk?
prevalence of the disease in the relatives/ prevelence in the gen pop
how do you calculate heritability
(variance in dizogotic twins/ variance in monozygotic twins)/ Variance in dizygotic pairs
if a heritability equation gives you 0 what does that mean?
it means the cause if from something other than genetic probably enviromnetal
what is characterisitic of incompletely penetrance mutations?
they usually skip a generation
what is a multifactorial disease?
inheriting a disease phenotype that is attributable to two or more genes or due to an interaction with the environment
what is meant by a polygenic disease
a disease phenotype that is determined by the combined action of multiple genetic loci
what is the Warburg effect and what is it used for?
it is a way of imaging where in the body the most ATP is being used. So the Warburg effect basically looks for rapidly dividing cell by looking at where ATP is being used the most.
