Videos
videos were shown to people educating them on lahars and pyroclastic flows
Alerts
Five stages of volcanic alert were issues from 1 to 5 – 1 being low-level activity with 5 being major eruption. Daily alerts were issued announcing the alert level.

Formal evacs stared on April 7th – a 10km zone. Evac of 10-20km was ordered when level 4 was issued on June 7 and level 5 alert triggered evac of 20-40km on June 13.
Typhoon
Typhoon Yunya struck on the same day passing 75km north of the volcano. The typhoon rains mixed with the ash deposits causing massiv e lahars, which presented a problem to towns and villages.
Dormancy
The volcano had been dormant for 400 years previous; this made the prediction of possible impacts probably quite difficult to measure.
Aetas Tribe and percentage
The Aetas tribe refused to leave their mountain, which was sacred to them – therefore 94% of the death toll was made up of Aeta members.
SO2
Nearly 20 million tons of sulphur dioxide was ejected
