Pictures from Class Flashcards

1
Q

Describe what is happening.

A

This is SERRATIUS MARCESSENS and the red pigment is PERDIGIOSIN. That is the normal metabolic pathway. The white colonies are a result of UV light and a disruption in this pathway. There are more colonies on the light plate because of PHOTOREACTIVATION.

Q

Describe this.

A

The E. Coli is most succeptable to UV light. The Bascillus subtilus 24hr culture is more resistant because of endospores. The 7day culture is the most resistant because it has more endopores than thr 24hr culture.

4
Q

Describe this.

A

The plate on the right is STARCH AGAR. Add Gram’s Iodine and the microbes that are (+) for starch hydrolysis have a clear zone around the growth.

The plate on the left is GELATIN AGAR. Organisms with a clear zone around the growth are positive for gelatin hydrolysis.

Q

Motility.

A

The organism on the left is motile. This was done by a motility stab. You can tell becuase the microbe has grown out from the original stab.

Q

Thioglycollate broth

A

The organism on the LEFT is an OBLIGATE AEROBE. You can tell because all the growth is at the top (pellicle).

The organism on the RIGHT is an OBLIGATE ANAEROBE. You can tell because the growth is at the bottom, away from the oxygen (sediment).
