X. tropicalis (Western clawed frog) is smaller than X. laevis (African clawed frog)
X. tropicalis is only diploid member of the genus, the rest are at least tetraploid (some have even more)
X. tropicalis has falf the haploid genome size per nucleus & has 20 chromosome pairs vs. 36 for X. laevis
Generation time for X. tropicalis is 4-6 months vs. 1-2 years for X. laevis
