Non-volley zone
The area of the court between the net and the front line of the serving boxes.
Volley
Ball that is hit before it touches the ground.
Lob
ball that is hit over your opponents head and bounces inside the baseline
Poach
When a player cuts in front of his/her partner to take his/her shot
Drop volley
A soft hit ball that is placed just over the net with an underspin, preventing a high
bounce.
Serving rules: where should you hit it
- go diagonal, not land in non volley zone
- only one serve attempt allowed except if there is a let
How is serving team detrrmined
-ralley played. Whoever wins decides if they or the other team is serving
Singles play
Serve from right hand court when score is 0 or even number
Serve from left when score is odd number
Score still played to 11
Faults: hitting the ball somewhere (where can it not be hit)

- Hitting it out of bounds
- not clearing the net
- being hit into th wrong box or out of service zone
Faults: the action of hitting th ball (4)
- step into non volley zone and volley the ball
- violating double bounce rule
- Swinging and missing the ball during a rally
- letting the ball hit you in the air during a ralley. You can’t play the ball off your body for any reason
Scoring rules
- team can only score when they serve
- player who serves will serve until their team makes a fault

Considered good
What is the game played to
11 pts and Win by 2 for both singles and doubles
Double bounce rule
-each team must play their first hit back on the bounce. -No volley
After, the ball can be hit volley or off the bounce
Non volley zone
- 7 ft on either side of the net that you are not allowed to volley the ball in (hit it before it bounces)
- Volleying must be done with the player’s feet behind the zone line
Who serves when the receiving team wins the serve
-The player on the right hand court will always start
play.
What is the set up at the start of a new game
-Serving team is allowed one fault before ball is turned over to other team
What is a let
The ball touches the net on the serve and lands in the proper service court. Then the serve is taken over.
What happens if the person steps into the non volley zone in the follow through
-considered a fault
How should you serve
- Both feet behind back line
- underhand and contact below waist
- hit the ball in the air, don’t bounce
What happens if the starting ball lands in the non volley zone
Redo. After that, the ball goes to the other team
What kind of scoring
Non rally. Can only score when you are serving

-Right
