Disclosure
Sharing biographical data, personal ideas and feelings that are unknown to the person you are communicating with.
Active listening
is to comprehend the content and context of the message being delivered while registering all verbal and non-verbal cues.
Non - Listener
Makes no effort to listen
Marginal listener
Hears words and sounds, makes little to no effort to clarify information.
Evaluative listener
Listens to message but fails to capture the feeling behind the words.
Assertiveness
Standing up for your personal rights - expressing thoughts, feelings and beliefs in direct, honest and appropriate ways, while also showing respect for the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of other people.
Empathy
The ability to see the world as another person, to share and understand another person’s feelings, needs, concerns and/or emotional state, ‘putting yourself in someone else’s shoes’.
Rapport
Building a positive relationship with someone based on common ground, making someone feel comfortable being with you and being empathic.
Body Language
A way of communicating non-verbally through body posture, gestures, facial expressions and eye movements.
Intrapersonal Communication
Internal thoughts & feelings, how we behave and react to situations.
Operational safety
Maintaining control and safety in the situation by means of being aware of the surroundings, stance and taking appropriate action when needed.
Conflict Resolution
The process of ending a disagreement through verbal skills and using the five step method of asking the person to comply, set the context and explain why, provide options, confirm action and take action.
Aggressive
Standing up for your rights, but in a way that violates the rights of other people, assumes that it’s the only truth, and that any contradictory statement is wrong.
