Birth-2yrs
Child learns through physical contact w/their surroundings
After 6 months they develop object permanence; concept that things exist even when 1 cannot c or touch them which results w/the child feeling a greater sense of permanence in his/her world
Sensory-Motor Stage

2-7 yrs
The child begins 2 use language, learning 2 arrange things in order and is beginning 2 classify things
The child is in a state of egocentrism; they assume they r the center and cause of everything in their world
The child is still fooled by appearances and does not yet fully understand time and sequence and has difficulty w/multiple directions
Pre-operational Stage

7-11 yrs
The child can conceive matter and weight and can classify items in various ways, although, they still need concrete materials w/which 2 explore and learn. The child can follow directions and is beginning 2 think abstractly
Concrete-Operational Stage

11-18 yrs
The child begins 2 reason w/out concrete objects and is finally capable of abstract thought. They think about thought, government, the solar system or scientific theories. The child is no longer tied 2 thinking about what they have seen or what their r able 2 visualize in their mind
