What is Piagets theory?
His theory is that children think differently and make sense of the world differently to adults.
1st stage of piagets theory and its ages
sensorimotor - 0-2 years
2nd stage of piagets theory and its ages
pre-operational - 2-7 years
Stage 3 of piagets theory and its ages
Concrete operational - 7-11 years
Stage 4 of piagets theory and its ages
formal operational - 12 and onwards
What happens during 1st stage ( sensorimotor )
Infants develop an understanding that events happen and objects exist separately.
What happens during the 2nd stage ( pre-operational )
At this stage children will develop an increased understanding of the world through language, playing, talking and more.
What happens during the 3rd stage ( concrete operational )
a child can work out things mentally using memory and imagination rather than having to see everything in action.
What happens during the 4th stage ( formal operational )
At this stage thinking becomes more advanced and complex.
