What is Kohlbergs theory ?
His theory is known as the theory of moral development, it outlines how individuals progress through different stages of moral reasoning.
1st stage of kohlbergs theory and its ages
pre conventional morality - 0-9 years
2nd stage of Kohlbergs theory
conventional morality ( this is during adolescence and adulthood )
3rd stage of Kohlbergs theory
post conventional morality ( this happens during adolescence and adulthood )
What happens during the 1st stage ( pre conventional morality )
Moral development is influenced by reward and punishment. This means that infants / children are developing an understanding of the rules and how society should be.
What happens during the 2nd stage ( conventional morality )
and acceptance of what is right and wrong ( doing what is morally correct )
What happens during the 3rd stage ( post conventional )
Although laws and rules exist they may not benefit everyone, someone people might question the rules and laws.
