phytomining and bioleaching (C1) Flashcards

1
Q

how does phytomining work?

A
  1. plants absorb copper ions from low grade copper ores in the soil as they grow
  2. plants are burned
  3. ash dissolved in sulphuric acid
  4. copper sulphate produced

Q

how does bioleaching work?

A
  1. bacteria feed on low grade ores
  2. by biological and chemical process’s a solution of copper ores is formed
  3. copper ore called a leachate
  4. scrap iron used to displace copper from solution
