Physiotherapist Flashcards
What systems do physics work with
Physiotherapists increase movement and mobility by working with nervous, muscular and skeletal systems
What do physios do
Physios are healthcare professionals that assess, diagognose, treat and work to prevent disease and disability through movement and exercise
Relationships with other professionals
Work with GP, surgeons, chiropractors
Afferent
Body (stimuli) to brain via sensory neurons
Efferent
Brain to body(response) via motor neurons
Function of nervous system
To send and receive messages from stimuli and initiate response
CNS
Brain and spinal cord
PNS
Nerves in limbs
Muscular system structure
Skeletal muscles
Striated and voluntary
Function of muscular system
Pull on bones to produce movement
Articulate cartilage structure
Glassy-smooth cartilage that is spongy and covers ends of bones in the joint
Ligament structure
A band of strong fibrous tissue
Synovial fluid
A slippery fluid that is contained within the joint cavity
Meniscus structure
A wedge of white fibrocartulage that improves the fit between adjacent bone ends
Conditions-THR what can physios do
Physios can help patients learn to walk and move again wihtout falling and move pain free
Conditions CVA
A physio would increase mobility and movement of patient recovering from CVA so can perform ADL’s
Bilateral meaning
Affects both sides of the body
Unilateral
Affects one side of the body
Contralateral
Affects opposite side of body to where conditions occurs
Ipsilateral
Affects same side of body to where condition occurs
Ischemic stroke
Complete blockage
Hemorrhagic stroke
Burst blood vessel
Transient ischemic attack
Temporary blockage
