What do optometrists do
An optometrists role is to detect defects in vision, signs of injury, ocular diseases or problems with general health
What systems optometrists
Sensory, nervous and muscular system
How does the retina and optic nerve work together
The retina detects light and turns it into electrical impulses which then travel to the optic nerve and sends this info to brain
How does the iris let more light into the eye
Dilating
Macular degeneration
Causes loss in the centre of the field of vision
Dry macular degeneration
Develops slowly and causes gradual vision loss. Most common kind.
Wet ,acular degeneration
Leads to rapid loss of central vision. Happens when abnormal blood vessels grow into macula and leak blood and fluid. Most serious kind
Glaucoma
A group of eye conditions that can cause blindness
Nerve connecting eye to brain is damaged due to high eye pressure
Long sightedness
A Person can see things from a distance but needs assistance seeing things close to face
Short sightedness
A person can see things that are close to their face but needs assistance seeing things at a distance
