The initial consonant or consonant clusters of the syllable
What is the coda of a syllable?
The constant at the end of the syllable

The skill in identifying the number of syllables in words.
What are the syllabic consonants?

Explain the distinctive feature analysis approach.
Basic concept that each phoebes is a collection of independent features.
Each phoneme is described according to a cluster of features that are either present or absent in that phoneme.
For example a + would be placed by ‘voiced’ for the phoneme /d/
Explain the place-voice-manner analysis.
It categorizing consonants in terms of three parameters. Place. Voice. Manner.
Place - bilabial, velar
Voice - voiced or unvoiced
Manner - stopping, fricative
What four dimensions are vowels characterized by? Distinctive Feature Analysis
Lip position, tense/lax qualities, tongue height, and tongue forwardness/retraction
How are diphthongs produced?
By a slow gliding movement from one vowel to the adjacent vowel
