Q

What is the Fick’s equation?

A

Mixed venous oxygen saturation is directly related to Hgb, SaO2, and CO. It is indirectly related to VO2.

Q

when is static compliance measured? when is dynamic?

What is the equation for compliance?

A

Static compliance measures the lung at a fixed volume unlike dynamic compliance, which measures the lung during normal rhythmic breathing.

The equation to determine lung compliance is the change in lung volume over the change in airway pressure.

Q

what increases Aa gradient?

what keeps it the same?

whats the normals Aa gradient?

A

The A-a gradient is increased (> 15 mm Hg) with shunting, dead space ventilation, and diffusion defects. The A-a gradient is not increased (5 - 10 mm Hg) with hypoventilation or low FiO2 in isolation.
