What is the equation for compliance?
Static compliance measures the lung at a fixed volume unlike dynamic compliance, which measures the lung during normal rhythmic breathing.
The equation to determine lung compliance is the change in lung volume over the change in airway pressure.

The A-a gradient is increased (> 15 mm Hg) with shunting, dead space ventilation, and diffusion defects. The A-a gradient is not increased (5 - 10 mm Hg) with hypoventilation or low FiO2 in isolation.
