Lombrosso’s theory: born criminals
He argued that criminals were physically different from scenarios
What is the atavistic form
Atavistic form is features that criminals have and inherit when they born. Based on lombrosso people born as a criminal and we can identify that through physical features which is called atavistic form.
Examples of atavistic form
Long arm, hawk-like noise, large ears
Sheldon’s somatotypes theory
Based on theory body types which is somatotypes are related to criminality. Mesamorphic bodies are more likely to commit crime. Ectomorphs are least likely to commit crime
What are somatotypes and their features
Mesamorph- muscular, hard, domineering, adventurous, attention- seeking, assertive
Ectomorph- thin, fragile, weak, emotionally restrained, thoughtfull
Endomorph- fat, soft body, rounded, sociable, outgoing, relax
Links with criminality
Sheldon studied with criminals and the most serious delinquents have most mesomorphic body type. However this is not the implication of theory is correct. Most of the working class individual works manual jobs which cause them to have mesomorphic body type.
