- Expansion of the rib cage diameter (OR lateral displacement of the ribs OR increasing the subcostal angle)
Functional
- Decreased total lung capacity
- Increased tidal volume
- Increased Minute Ventilation
- Increased inspiratory capacity
Physiological
- Increased PaO2 and decreased PaCO2
–> Respiratory alkalosis
